GENTRIFITECHNO

Gentrification doesn’t always lead to better living conditions.

Rotterdams active gentrification policy, combined with extremely long waiting lists for affordable housing, has left many people feeling pushed out of their own neighborhoods. Rotterdam changes so quickly that sometimes there isn’t even time to truly consider the impact on communities or how gentrification affects the people who live there.

Through videos and music, I want to convey the relentless pace of gentrification and the constant transformation of Rotterdam itself.
This is where my love for stop motion began.

The merchandise is intended as a form of protest. For example, the "opgedonderd" (or “kicked out”) stickers are designed to be placed over “sold” signs—symbolizing what happens when people are forced out of their homes because of gentrification.

For the track I worked together with dj Mats van de Poll. I created the intro and I directed the structure. From there Mats created the track in his style.
